Stepping Up

When you are in a situation where leadership is not available, do not be afraid to step up into that role. For example, if a meeting organizer is suddenly not able to attend, you can run the meeting as long as you are familiar with the agenda. Management will take notice of your leadership ability when you are not afraid to step up into leadership roles.

Improving Business Processes

When you work to improve existing business processes to better align with the goals of your organization, you will show management your ability to think at a higher level. Business processes are a set of activities that will accomplish a specific organizational goal. Management will notice you as you help your team increase productivity by improving business processes.

Asking for a Promotion

Promotions are not given automatically, you have to ask for a promotion. It is very important to know how and when to ask for a promotion. You will rarely get anywhere in your career if you do not ask. Before you interview for a promotion, you should create a formal presentation detailing your abilities plus any ideas you have for when you get the promotion. After the interview, don’t forget to send a well-written thank you letter to each person who interviewed you.
