The Fundamentals of Web Development: Using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript includes three short videos and a course manual that walk you through building a Superhero themed web page from scratch. You will add HTML5 elements to your page as I walk you through what each element is and why it is used. Then, I teach you the difference between CSS element selectors and CSS classes as we update our Superhero themed web page to add a bit of style. In the final lesson, you will learn the fundamentals of JavaScript including creating a “Hello World” JavaScript alert, getting the text from an HTML label element, creating a simple string array, sorting a string array, and inserting HTML into your Superhero themed web page using JavaScript.

Why HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript?

HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript are the three basic skills necessary for any web developer. Whether you want to learn Microsoft .NET, PHP, or any other backend programming language for web development, you will have to learn HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript first. Web development is a combination of two skills: frontend and backend. Frontend means the visual elements on the page, that’s where HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript are used. Backend means the data storage and web application on the server. If you are equally talented in frontend and backend web development, you are what is known as a full stack developer (that’s me!).
